2017 Military Pay

The 2017 military pay increase is currently proposed at 1.6%. This increase is .3% higher than the 1.3% increase in 2016. However, it is still .5% less than the 2.1% estimation for salaries of private sector employees, despite recommendations to make up for recent low increases with a higher percentage increase. The 2016 Defense Budget allotted a pay increase of less than the 2.1% as well, continuing a six year trend of lower increase. For fiscal year 2017 a 2.9% BAH increase has been proposed for the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rate across all branches: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Reserves, when applicable. The 2.9% increase would be effective on January 1, 2017, if approved by the FY2017 National Defense Authorization Act.
